Vinko ErcegFellow, Broadcom

Latest WLAN Developments – IEEE 802.11
In this talk we will briefly present IEEE 802.11 evolution and spend most time on the latest WLAN generation, 802.11ax. We will also briefly introduce new developments in the next generation WLAN standard, EHT (Extremely High Throughput). Main features of these standards will be presented, with some level of technical detail and performance results.

    BIO:
Vinko Erceg, Ph.D., Fellow in the Wireless Connectivity – WLAN Group, is recognized for his contributions to wireless systems and standards. Vinko began his career at Broadcom in 2004, via the Zyray Wireless acquisition, by working on wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) and high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) modem designs, which enabled the launch of Broadcom’s first 3G line of products. In 2006, he joined the WLAN group as a standards lead. Vinko was instrumental in developing key standards such as the introduction of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology in 802.11n, further throughput increase in 802.11ax, 802.11ac and 802.11ad and sub 1 GHz extended range in 802.11ah and 802.11af. Vinko led Broadcom to become industry leader in developing new WLAN specifications. Before joining Broadcom, Vinko worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Iospan Wireless. In 2007, he became an IEEE Fellow in recognition of his many contributions to wireless channel propagation modeling and signal processing. In 2014 he became a Broadcom Fellow. In 2015 he received IEEE-SA Standards Medallion. He submitted more than 200 patents, most of which are currently issued, has published 50 journal, magazine and conference papers, and submitted and presented a large number of contributions to WFA, IEEE and 3GPP standardization bodies. He served as a 802.11ad vice chair, 802.11n and 802.11ac PHY ad hoc chair. Vinko is active on the spectrum and regulatory fronts, working with WFA, IEEE, NTIA and FCC on allocating new spectrum. In the WFA, Vinko currently serves as 11ax Technical Task Group Chair and has served as 11ac (VHT5G) Technical Task Group Chair. Currently Vinko’s group is working on IEEE 802.11 and 3GPP standardization, WFA, Spectrum, GSMA, WBA and Wi-Fi/LTE-U/LAA coexistence. Vinko earned a Ph.D. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the City University of New York.
